“Good Design Award” is a comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. This award was originally the “Good Design Product Selection System (known as “G Mark” System) established by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1957 (today’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), and since then “good designs” contributing to industry, society and more affluent living have been evaluated and awarded. The award targets a broad range of submissions, with award winners reaching almost 1,000 annually and over 40,000 awards being conferred over the past 55 years.
